Hongkong: Dense Urban Jungle

Being the fourth most densely populated region in the world, Hongkong solution to housing problem is by building skyscrapers. Towering apartment blocks, commercial centers & offices standing side by side, making it truly an international metropolis.

Visited HK for few days, I got a chance to capture some of its concrete jungle, old and new. All shots were just a sneak photos while carrying a baby or a diaper bag so taking them is a little struggle, not to add the annoyed husband and bored toddler behind.

Hongkong Skyline
Probably one of the most photographed scene!
Shot was taken from The Peak, Hongkong Island.
The opposite island is the Mainland where Tsim
Sha Tsui & Kowloon Area located, as well
as Mongkok - our airbnb base camp!

Lippo Center Tower I & II
A stroll in Hongkong Park, you'll get this view.

Park Island Residential
You can see just how massive this complex in
Ma Wan Island. Visible are few towers from
31 Towers all in all.

Tung Chung Crescent Tower
This residential blocks are located at Lantau Island near
the cable car terminal going to Ngong Ping Village

Another tower @ Tung Chung Area

More of close-up shot while riding the open top bus!

Mongkok was characterized by a mixture of old and new multi-story buildings with shops & restaurants at street level while commercial or residential units above. The following pictures below show a glimpse of old buildings from the area and the adjacent Yu Ma Tei. Others are random shots while riding the rickshaw sightseeing bus.

FAMILIARIZING HONGKONG:

The map above shows some of its islands.

From Left to Right:

1) Chek Lap Kok Island where the International
    Airport was built.
2) Lantau Island where Disneyland, Tian Tan Buddha,
Ngong Ping Village  & PoLin Monastery were
    located.
3) Hongkong Mainland where the Avenue of Stars,
Kowlon Park & Sky100 Observation Deck
    were situated.
4) Hongkong Island where the Ocean Park, The Peak,
Hongkong Park to name a few can be found.

Hongkong is a city, not a country. Considered as part of China but as a Special Administrative Region. It has the privileges of not being completely reliant on the Chinese government and instead having its own small government, its own money, passport and immigration channels. It isn't quite independent either because they carry Chinese Flag and the Chief Executive was said to be appointed by Beijing.
